Gestalt Consciousness Project
This Seattle based Matrix and technology collective, started as a project in digitally distributed democracy on the University of Washington campus, but soon outgrew their original charter. For a time they were funded by the UCAS Technocratic party, but they proved beyond the control of the politicians. The group aims to elevate metahuman consciousness through use of technology and to promote technoutopian politics both through organization and less legal means. The group of students and artificial intelligences, which have been joined by various scientists and hackers that share their goals (and want to use their equipment) currently illegally occupy a facility on the University of Washington campus, though the university is reluctant to use force to evict them. They have access to top off the line computers, communications equipment and software, much of it stolen or illegal. They act through a complex algorithm that is constantly polling the members on different questions and from that generating the groups positions and strategies on a variety of political and logistical questions. There is a leadership committee, but they generally defer to the decisions of the GCP algorithm. The powerful media personalitysim AI, NAOMI, is the group’s spokes-entity and most influential member.
Prior to the GCP’s current outlaw status, they were an official research project of the university which operated through a powerful ultraviolet node. The combination of the early research subjects political opinions and the initial algorithm produced the AI Mithridates. When Rusty made his datarun on the University of Washington to erase the GCP’s trail he encountered Mithridates and discovered the existence of the original UV node.
